The Hon. Enver Erdogan MP, Member for Northern Metropolitan Region

Enver Erdogan is an Australian politician. He has been an Australian Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Council representing Southern Metropolitan Region from August 2019 to December 2022. He currently serves as the Member for Northern Metropolitan Region and as the Minister for Corrections, Youth Justice and Victim Support.

From June 2022 to December 2022, Enver served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Attorney-General.

Enver also served as Chair of the Legislative Council’s Standing Committee on the Economy and Infrastructure from February 2020 to August 2022, which has the function to inform the work of Parliament by inquiring into and reporting on any proposal, matter or thing concerned with agriculture, commerce, infrastructure, industry, major projects, public sector finances, transport and education.

As Committee Chair, he presided over inquiries into Expanding Melbourne’s Free Tram Zone, Increase in Victoria’s Road Toll, Use of School Buses in Rural and Regional Victoria, the Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism and events sectors, Victoria’s Multi Purpose Taxi Program, and the Closure of the Hazelwood and Yallourn Power Stations.

Enver holds degrees in Economics and Law from La Trobe University, and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Leo Cussen Centre for Law. He is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Prior to his election to the Victorian Parliament, Enver was an Associate at Maurice Blackburn – Australia’s leading trade union and social justice law firm. Enver’s legal practice focused on representation of injured workers, the most fulfilling aspect of practicing law for Enver was making a difference to people’s lives one case at a time.

Enver was also a Councillor of the Moreland City Council between 2008 and 2012, and served on the board of the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) Management Committee – the peak representative body for local Government in Victoria.

In his free time, Enver enjoys reading about history and foreign affairs, as well as spending time with family and friends. He enjoys Soccer and AFL, and is a one-eyed supporter of the Collingwood Football Club. He is married with two daughters.
